Ennis then knocked down

Miami, FL (SportsNetwork.com) - Chris Bosh is back in the spotlight after taking a back seat to LeBron James the last four years in South Beach. He got off to a great start in the post-LeBron era Wednesday. Bosh had 26 points and 15 rebounds as the Miami Heat defeated the Washington Wizards 107-95 in the season opener for both teams. Bosh, who saw his numbers decline each year with James in town, signed a five- year $118 million deal in the offseason to remain in Miami. He hopes to return to the 24 points and 10.8 rebounds per game averages during his final season with Toronto in 2009-10. The 29-year-old lefty had averaged 17.3 points and 7.4 rebounds per game with Miami coming into this season. Its one game. We need to stay focused on what we need to do as a team and individually, Bosh said. Dwyane Wade netted 12 of his 21 points in the fourth quarter, while Norris Cole added 23 for the Heat, who made it to the NBA Finals in each of James four years and won back-to-back titles in 2012 and 2013. Luol Deng posted 12 points in his Miami debut. John Wall tallied 16 points and 11 assists, Marcin Gortat supplied 18 points and seven rebounds and Drew Gooden provided 18 points for Washington, which will be without blossoming third-year guard Bradley Beal for the first month due to a wrist injury. Throughout the whole game they got to every loose ball, Wall said. The Wizards, who went 44-38 last season, made it to the Eastern Conference semifinals before falling to the Indiana Pacers. Ten-time All-Star Paul Pierce had 17 points, six boards and five assists in his Wizards debut, taking over for Trevor Ariza, who signed with Houston. Otto Porter scored the first four points during an 8-0 Wizards run to pull them within 84-83 with 5:22 left in the fourth, but Miami responded with the next six to push the margin back to seven. Mario Chalmers nailed a 3-pointer and Wade sunk two free throws for a 90-83 Heat advantage with 4:14 to play. Gortat split a pair of free throws to claw Washington within 99-93 a few minutes later, but Wade found Deng underneath for a layup and then hit a triple to seal it with 1:01 remaining. Earlier, Washington led 28-22 after a quarter of play before the Heat put in the first six points of the second to tie it, with Bosh netting the final four points of the spurt. The Heat held a 53-52 edge at the break. Miami took a 72-70 margin into the fourth, where the Heat used an 8-0 surge to build a nine-point cushion. Chalmers hit James Ennis in stride with a cross-court pass and he leapt over the top of Rasual Butler for an emphatic dunk. Ennis then knocked down the subsequent free throw for a three-point play. Shabazz Napiers steal of Wall and layup provided Miami an 84-75 lead with 8:35 to go. Game Notes The Heat went 224-88 and won 59 postseason games during the James era ... Napiers layup was his lone two points in his NBA debut ... Miami shot 48.1 percent (39-of-81) from the floor and was 87 percent (20-of-23) from the foul line ... Miami outrebounded Washington 44-36. Kehls goal came against the run of play in the 58th minute when he swept the ball over Freiburg goalkeeper Oliver Baumann from around 25 metres with his left foot. "We didnt really have any shots on goal. Dortmund neither -- apart from Kehls shot," Baumann said. "Its annoying, because we were holding our own." The result prevented Freiburg from escaping the relegation zone with a win. It would have been the clubs 100th home win in 500 Bundesliga games. Dortmund restored its 20-point gap behind runaway leader Bayern Munich. "Whoever wins these sorts of games becomes champion, but that doesnt apply (this season)," Dortmund coach Juergen Klopp joked, referring to Bayerns unprecedented form. Both Dortmund and Freiburg cancelled each other out in a first half of few real threats, and there werent many more chances in the second. "It was a lucky win for us. You have to say that," Doortmund defender Mats Hummels said.dddddddddddd Dortmunds Sokratis was fortunate to escape with just a yellow card at the end of the first when he appeared to take down the surging Philipp Zulechner. "If he showed a card at all, it should be red as he was the last defender," Zulechner said. Mainz drew 1-1 at home with Hertha Berlin in Sundays late game, a result that cost both sides the chance to climb into the European qualification places. Hertha goalkeeper Thomas Kraft made a series of key interventions as the home side came closest to scoring in the first half. Adrian Ramos put the visitors ahead in the 51st, when Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting lost the ball to Per Skjelbred, who set up the Colombian striker to shoot inside the far post. Choupo-Moting atoned in the 65th with a well-struck penalty, conceded when Sami Allagui brought down Koo Ja-Cheol. "We made unnecessary mistakes in the first half but improved in the second," said Hertha coach Jos Luhukay, whose side remains ninth, two points behind seventh-placed Mainz. "Were happy with the point." China NFL Jerseys White Cheap NFL Gear Cheap Jerseys 2019 Youth NFL Jerseys China Wholesale Jerseys China Cheap NFL Jerseys Wholesale Youth NFL Jerseys China ' ' '

The last person the struggling

EDMONTON - The last person the struggling Edmonton Oilers needed to see in the opposing net on Friday was Ryan Miller. Carlos Salcedo Jersey .The Vancouver goalie made 28 saves to record his 30th career shutout as the Canucks remained undefeated on the season, getting past the Oilers 2-0.The win improved the 34-year-olds all-time record against the Oilers to 9-0-0.It means a lot. You like to get the first one (shutout) out of the way, said Miller, who signed a three-year free agency deal with the Canucks this summer. It was an important game for us as well, to keep things moving along. We had a long break.I think I am a little more composed, starting with my positioning. In my last game I was a little anxious, a little excited. I tried to calm down a little bit tonight.Radim Vrbata and Daniel Sedin scored for the Canucks, who improved to 3-0-0 on the season.I think we were fresh and it helped that we have such a deep lineup and we can roll four lines, Daniel Sedin said. We spent a lot of time in their end and were able to tire them out.Daniel Sedin said that Vrbata has been a welcome addition to the top line in the early running as another free agent acquisition.I think it has helped, he said. He shoots a lot and that opens up a lot of things for us. He is a right-handed shot and I think that gives our line and extra edge. He has been good. The Oilers are still in search of their first victory of the year, dropping to 0-4-1 — their worst start in franchise history. The fans were really behind us and that gave us some extra energy and its just frustrating we werent able to pull through, said Oilers forward David Perron. Its just frustrating that we didnt get at least a goal for (Ben Scrivens) and for the effort that the guys put in.Scrivens, who stopped 28-of-29 shots, said that the game was at least a positive sign in that the Oilers played better that in their two previous outings.I thought we played a lot better, but your play is measured in wins and losses, he said. We have a lot of work left to do. Hopefully, everybody can see that some of the pieces are starting to fall into place. Its only one game, so the same way we tried not to panic after a couple of losses, were not going to rest on anything, playing one good game. The key is coming out and playing another good game after that. The more we can do that, the idea is that the wins start to fall after that. There was no scoring in a back-and-forth first period that saw Scrivens face 12 shots in the Edmonton net and Miller make 10 stops. The biggest save in the opening frame went to Scrivens, stopping Henrik Sedin in tight with a quick kick save with two minutes remaining.Miller had his biggest test to that point of the game two-and-a-half minutes into the second period when he made a big blocker stop on Ryan Nugent-Hopkins, who came in on a short-handed breakaway. Miller then made another huge stop on a backhander in tight by Matt Hendricks a few minutes later.Scrivens responded midway through the second with a big save on a deflection by Chris Higgins.Moments later, Vancouver defenceman Dan Hamhuis was rushed off the ice pouring blood after being hit by an inadvertent high stick by Edmontons Mark Arcobello. Hamhuis returned late in the second wearing a cage. The Canucks finally broke the scoreless deadlock with four minutes left in the second period as Daniel Sedin made a nice pass through the goal-mouth to a wide-open Vrbata on the other side of the net for his third goal of the season. It is about timing and being at the right place at the right time, Vrbata said. If I do that, I know that they will find me. It was a nice pass.Vancouver had a couple of glorious opportunities to extend its lead in the first half of the third, but Scrivens received some help with Taylor Hall and Andrew Ference both clearing pucks moments before a Canuck could put it in an open net.The Canucks put the game away in the final minute on an empty net goal by Daniel Sedin. The Canucks return home to host the Tampa Bay Lightning on Saturday. Edmonton next plays the Lightning in the second game of their seven-game homestand on Monday.Notes — Vancouver and Edmonton met five times in the regular season last year, with the Canucks winning three of the five outings… The Canucks havent played since defeating the Oilers 6-5 in a shootout last Saturday… Oiler forward Ryan Nugent Hopkins returned to the lineup after missing the last two games following a hit by, and his subsequent first NHL fight against, with Canucks defenceman Dan Hamhuis… The Oilers called defenceman Martin Marincin up from Oklahoma City for the game while also assigning defender Darnell Nurse to junior on Friday… Canucks rookie forward Bo Horvat practiced on Thursday, but was still unable to make his NHL debut with a shoulder injury. Alfredo Talavera Jersey . Mike Ribeiro had a goal and an assist as Phoenix held on to snap a two-game losing streak with a 4-3 win over the Edmonton Oilers on Friday. Custom Mexico Jerseys . Lauzon rushed for 42 yards on 15 carries for the Vert et Or (2-3) while quarterback Jeremi Roch completed 19-of-32 passes for 251 yards and one interception. Alexandre Aube scored the other touchdown for Sherbrooke.CHICAGO -- Andrew Shaw stopped a long scoring drought. Jonathan Toews had another big game. The Chicago Blackhawks had 13 players with at least one point. Yup, those line changes worked out pretty well for the Stanley Cup champions. Shaw and Toews had two goals apiece, and the Blackhawks beat the Columbus Blue Jackets 6-1 on Thursday night to keep pace in the Western Conference playoff race. "I think all the lines had some chemistry tonight," Shaw said. "It was a big win for us." Brandon Bollig and Bryan Bickell also scored as Chicago bounced back from a 4-2 home loss to Colorado on Tuesday night. Corey Crawford made 22 saves for his 10th consecutive victory against Columbus. With St. Louis and Colorado also winning, the Blackhawks remained two points back of the Blues for the Central Division lead and one point ahead of the Avalanche. "Were motivated to build ourselves into the team we want to be come playoff time, but that adds to it to keep us honest, to make sure were competing the right way every night," Toews said, highlighting the bunched standings out West. Ryan Johansen scored his 25th goal for the Blue Jackets, who had won three in a row. Sergei Bobrovsky made 14 stops before he was pulled during the Blackhawks three-goal second period. "We werent emotionally into the game," Columbus coach Todd Richards said. "The intensity wasnt there. I thought we lacked intensity. It wasnt everyone. We had some guys that wanted to get involved, but there were too many guys who werent involved in the game." The Blackhawks had managed just eight goals while dropping three of four, and five of those came against Pittsburgh at Soldier Field on Saturday. That prompted coach Joel Quenneville to shuffle his lines, putting Shaw with Toews and Brandon Saad in the top group and moving Patrick Sharp to the second line with Michal Handzus and Patrick Kane. It worked. After Johansen took advantage of a bad line change to tie it at 1 at 7:56 of the first, it was all Blackhawks. They outshot the Blue Jackets 33-23 for the game and lead the NHL with 221 goals. "Jonnys line had the big night, with several offensive zone shifts, some real nice plays and some nice (finishes) as well," Quenneville said. Shaw said iit was his first time playing on the same line with Toews since his first NHL game on Jan. Rafael Marquez Jersey. 5, 2012, at Philadelphia. Shaw also scored in that one, with Toews picking up an assist. For all that time apart, they sure looked pretty comfortable together. Shaw sparked the runaway win when he made the most of a terrific pass by Sheldon Brookbank, beating Bobrovsky into the upper right corner with 3:16 left in the first. Brookbanks long pass banked off the boards and sprung Shaw for a breakaway on the right side of the ice. "It was unbelievable. I think we just made eye contact and we knew what we were going to do," Shaw said. Chicago added three more in the second, highlighted by Saads impressive series of moves that set up Toews for an easy score. Saad skated around James Wisniewski and Nathan Horton before he was stopped by Bobrovsky. The rebound went right back to Saad, who passed to Toews on the other side of the net to make it 3-1 eight minutes into the second. Bickell had a rebound score that chased Bobrovsky and Brent Seabrooks slap shot went off Shaw and past Curtis McElhinney with 2:16 left in the period. It was the 16th goal for Shaw, who stopped an 11-game drought. Toews added a power-play goal in the third for his 24th of the season. The captain has five goals and an assist in the last three games. "Its frustrating because we didnt play our game and who knows what these points, what difference theyll make at the end of the season," Johansen said. It was more than enough for Crawford, who improved to 10-2-0 in his career against the Blue Jackets. He made a nice save on Matt Calverts backhand in the first and turned away Nick Foligno on a close opportunity in the second. NOTES: Blue Jackets D Nikita Nikitin left in the second period with an upper body injury. Richards said Nikitin would travel with the team to Nashville, and then be re-evaluated. ... Blackhawks C Peter Regin missed the morning skate, but Quenneville said he was resting and he had 15 shifts in the game. ... The Blue Jackets scratched LW Blake Comeau, RW Corey Tropp and Ds Ryan Murray and Cody Goloubef. ... Ds David Rundblad and Michal Rozsival, plus injured F Marian Hossa, were the scratches for the Blackhawks. Wright will receive more treatment this week while resting his non-throwing shoulder. Saskatchewan and decided he wanted

MILWAUKEE -- Michael Redd, a former All-Star guard who became the fourth-leading scorer in Bucks history in a career hampered by injuries, will retire in Milwaukee on Wednesday. The team announced Redds decision Tuesday and said he will make a formal announcement when Milwaukee hosts Cleveland. Redd was a second-round pick out of Ohio State in 2000, 43rd overall, and he played 11 of his 12 seasons in Milwaukee. Two separate injuries to his left knee cost him large chunks of three straight seasons with the Bucks and he last played for Phoenix in 2011-12. He finishes his NBA career with 11,972 points (11,554 of them with Milwaukee) and a .447 per cent shooter, .380 from 3-point range. For Milwaukee, he averaged 20.0 points, 4.0 rebounds and 2.3 assists per game. Redd, a reserve on the 2003 All-Star team, reached the playoffs three times with the Bucks. He was also on the gold medal-winning U.S. team at the 2008 Beijing Olympics. Redd tore ligaments in his left knee in January 2009, then did it again in January 2010. On Nov. 11, 2006, Redd set the franchises individual game scoring record with 57 against Utah, breaking the mark set in 1971 by Kareem Abdul-Jabbar (55 points). Redd also holds the NBA record for 3-pointers made in one quarter (eight in the fourth quarter vs. Houston on Feb. 20, 2002). "Its been a glorious 11 years," Redd said as he wrapped up his career with the Bucks in April 2011. "I wouldnt trade anything. Just had a tremendous journey over these 11 years. Theyve seen me grow up, because Ive been here since I was 20 years old. Its been an amazing journey. Some ups, some downs. But through it all, the fans have been great, the organizations been great to my family." "Im pushing our guys," Casey said after practice Friday, making the case for his backcourt duo, Kyle Lowry and DeMar DeRozan, to get voted in as first-time All-Stars. "I dont know if we can get two [but] Im going to push two and hope to get one, because both guys are playing at a high level." The Raptors coach initially broached the subject in Miami on Sunday. "Theyre playing like All-Stars," he said. "You look at the other guards in the East and theyre right there with them." Since then, he has been busy campaigning to his peers. "All my friends, all the coaches, [Ive] talked to them about it, texted them, they did me the same way when they were trying to get their guys in last year," Casey admitted. "Ill beg the coaches, bribe them with lunch or dinner, whatever, when we have a coaches meeting," he joked. "But its what we should be doing as an organization, and we are doing it as an organization and Im doing it with the coaches." More than likely, Miamis Dwyane Wade and Clevelands Kyrie Irving will get the nod from fans to start in the backcourt for the Eastern Conference. The leagues coaches will then vote in the reserves, two backcourt players, three frontcourt and two wild-card spots (players at any position). Theres a legitimate case to be made for both Raptors guards to represent the East as reserves in the annual midseason showcase, taking place on Feb. 16 in New Orleans. DeRozan is 13th in the NBA in scoring, averaging a career-best 21.2 points per game. He has made notable strides as both a passer and a defender, once considered to be holes in his game. Hes recorded five or more assists in eight of 34 games after doing so 12 times last year and accomplishing that feat in just five contests combined over his first three seasons in the league. "Look at what hes doing," Lowry said of his teammate. "He leads our team in scoring, hes done a great job of being our go-to guy, hes been a complete professional and he gets better every single night." Lowry has been Torontos most valuable player, carrying the team at the point guard position. In his eighth season, Lowry is averaging career-bests in points, assets and steals while shooting his highest percentage from three-point range. His career-best streak of 24 consecutive games with six or more dimes recently came to an end, topping his previous high of eight straight. Hes fourth in the league in assist-to-turnover ratio. "Look at the stat sheet after he plays," said DeRozan, making the case for Lowry. "Any given night he gives you 16 points, 11 rebounds, nine assists, somewhere around that margin every game. Thats just what he [does]. He goes out there and plays hard, hes scrappy, hes a bulldog when hes out there on that court. Hes definitely a leader, he definitely wants to win, I see it in his eyes." True to character, both players were hesitant to make their own case but neither could downplay what the honour of being namedd to the All-Star squad, alongside the leagues best, would mean to them.dddddddddddd "It would be an unbelievable, phenomenal thing, it would be humbling," Lowry admitted. "Im sure if either one of us [makes] it, it would be a great time and a great accomplishment and achievement to tell our families and our kids one day." Lowry made sure to follow up that statement with a reminder that he, DeRozan and the rest of the team remain far more concerned with their collective success than individual accolades. The Raptors recent success could be the very thing that nets them their first All-Star since Bosh was named to the team in 2010. "We deserve it," Casey said proudly. "Our record, were ranked at the top of our division, were number four in our conference so we do deserve All-Star ranking and All-Star consideration with our players, because those guys are playing at a very high level." Entering Fridays slate of games, Toronto is one of just four teams in the East with a record at or above the .500 mark. As a team, the Raptors have gone 11-5 since the early-December trade of Rudy Gay with both Lowry and DeRozan - the teams two leading scorers - playing key roles in the resurgence. Although his percentages have dropped slightly, DeRozan is taking the same amount of shots as he was pre-trade and hes averaging nearly two more assists per contest. Lowry is tied for fifth in the league in assists since the trade was made on Dec. 8, averaging 8.4 to go along with 17.6 points. While Lowry may be more deserving of the honour given his value over replacement this season, DeRozan should have a favourable shot at earning recognition from the leagues coaches. DeRozan is highly thought of as a hard working, evolving player and has been universally praised by opposing coaches this season, whereas Lowry has developed a reputation for being somewhat combative. "Kyles showed hes a positive leader," Casey said of his point guard, who - in the final year of his contract - came into training camp with a renewed focus, in the best shape of his career. "I think that was the biggest question among coaches around the league, could he be a positive leader and be productive on the court. Hes done that." "I think theyre [both] very well respected. DeMar has been playing at a very high level, being very efficient, not just a volume shooter, so hes done that. Everything those guys have [done have answered] the questions about them as players. Plus on top of that theyve put us at the top of our division." The Raptors backcourt duo, or at least one of them, could be the beneficiary of a weak Eastern Conference. Unlike the loaded West, the conferences player pool reflects its overall inferiority. Their primary competition figures to come from Washingtons John Wall (19.7 points, 8.7 assists), Orlandos Arron Afflalo (21.0 points, 4.5 rebounds, 4.0 assists), Atlantas Jeff Teague (16.8 points, 7.9 assists) and Indianas Lance Stephenson (13.4 points, 6.6 rebounds, 5.2 assists). All-Star starters will be announced live on the TNT broadcast Jan. 23 and the reserves will be revealed a week later, also on TNT. Scott Cullen looks at Saturdays

Scott Cullen looks at Saturdays playoff action, including tough times for the undisciplined Chicago Blackhawks, Matt Calvert lifting the Blue Jackets to their first playoff win, and Nathan MacKinnon putting on a show as Colorado takes a 2-0 series lead over Minnesota. HEAVY HOCKEY The Chicago Blackhawks are within two minutes of having a 2-0 series lead, surrendering tying goals late in the third period (1:45 remaining in Game One, six seconds left in Game Two) of the first two games in St. Louis, leading to 4-3 overtime defeats in both games. Being that close doesnt amount to much now, though, as Chicago is facing a 2-0 series deficit along with the possibility that a top pair defenceman, Brent Seabrook, could be suspended for a crushing hit on Blues C David Backes, whose status has to be questionable in the immediate aftermath. Seabrook had a goal and an assist in Game Two, before taking a major penalty for his hit on Backes wit 4:51 remaining in the third period. If Seabrook is suspended, Sheldon Brookbank could move into the Chicago lineup, but Backes potential absence also causes issues for the Blues. Even though the St. Louis lineup was bolstered by the return of RW T.J. Oshie, their top three healthy centres after Backes in Game Two were Vladimir Sobotka, Maxim Lapierre and Derek Roy. If Backes is out (and Patrik Berglund is already out), then St. Louis may have to shuffle Steve Ott to the middle and add a winger, Dimitrij Jaskin or Brenden Morrow, to the lineup. Leading the way for St. Louis in Game Two was D Kevin Shattenkirk, who had a goal and two assists, and also happened to be break-even in Corsi%, which was rare on a Blues team that was easily handled by Chicago at even strength. The problem for the Blackhawks, however, was an appalling lack of discipline, as Chicago was shorthanded nine times, including 11 minutes of shorthanded time in the final 15 minutes of the game. A positive for the Blackhawks was the performance of RW Marian Hossa, who matched his season high with eight shots on goal in Game Two. Blackhawks C Jonathan Toews, who was on the ice for both the tying and game-winning goals against, had a dominant possession game (85% Corsi%), getting the better of a strength-on-strength matchup against the Blues top line of Backes, Alexander Steen and T.J. Oshie. Returning to the lineup for the first time since a late-season concussion, Oshies Corsi% for the game was 13.0%. The results through the first two games could have gone either way, so its not as if Chicago is out of the running as they head home for Game Three. However, their margin for error is gone. They need to get on the board with a win if they are going to make a series out of this. JACKETS EVEN UP Matt Calverts second goal of the game, 1:10 into double overtime, earned the Columbus Blue Jackets the first playoff win in the franchises history. Calvert, who was favourably included in my piece on which fighters can handle more playing time, played a career-high 22:26 in the double-overtime affair, having possession success with linemates Cam Atkinson and Brandon Dubinsky. Blue Jackets D Jack Johnson led all skaters with 38:21 of ice time and scored the game-tying goal with 6:01 remaining in the third period. Johnson now has 15 points in 14 career playoff games. Among defencemen with at least a dozen career playoff games, Johnsons 1.07 points per game in the postseason ranks second, behind only Bobby Orr. Blue Jackets C Ryan Johansen added a goal and an assist, while D David Savard contributed two assists to the winning effort. On the Penguins side, RW Brian Gibbons scored a pair of goals, and Sidney Crosby had a couple of assists, but no other Penguins forwards got on the scoresheet. D Paul Martin had two assists while Matt Niskanen added a goal and an assist. Perhaps the most troubling issue for Pittsburgh in Game Two was the play of D Kris Letang, who was stomped (32.5% Corsi%) in possession terms. His minus-14 Corsi was his lowest of the season. Even so, his 27:40 of ice time was behind only Paul Martin (34:07) and Brooks Orpik (28:02) on the Penguins blueline. Columbus D Fedor Tyutin left the game with a presumed upper-body injury after taking a couple of hard hits and playing just 6:55. If Tyutin is out, Dalton Prout or Nick Schultz are available to join the Columbus lineup, but Savard is the one who moves up the depth chart. He played 33:46 in Game Two. Earning the Game Two win ought to give the Blue Jackets some feeling of belonging in the postseason. They can compete with the Penguins, play them close enough that G Sergei Bobrovsky (who stopped 39 of 42 shots in Game Two) has a chance to make a difference. MACKINNONS COMING OUT PARTY 18-year-old Avalanche rookie RW Nathan MacKinnon had a goal and three assists in Colorados 4-2 Game Two win over the Minnesota Wild, giving the Avs a 2-0 lead in the series, and MacKinnon seven points through two games. There is a good chance that MacKinnon is on his way to the best playoff scoring for an 18-year-old in league history, as Jaromir Jagr holds the current mark with 13 playoff points in 1991. The line of MacKinnon, LW Gabriel Landeskog (two goals) and C Paul Stastny (one goal, three assists) carried the day for the Avalanche, with MacKinnons speed and playmaking ability creating huge difficulty for the Wild, even though Minnesota frequently had their top defence pairing of Ryan Suter and Jonas Brodin matched up against them. Though he wasnt particularly to blame for Colorados first three goals, Wild G Ilya Bryzgalov was pulled with 8:01 remaining in the second period, replaced by Darcy Kuemper, the rookie who last played March 27. Kuemper stopped all 14 shots he faced. That Colorado has high-end skill up front comes as no surprise, nor is it shocking that G Semyon Varlamov has been the better of the goaltenders in the series but, coming home for Game Three, the Wild need their own top forwards to answer the bell and hope that whomever they go with in net, Kuemper or Bryzgalov, will give them a chance to get back in the series. No, the San Antonio star didnt announce retirement plans during an off day at the NBA Finals on Wednesday. But a player who has almost always declined the chance to discuss his own legacy after 17 seasons in the NBA — all with the Spurs — Duncan provided a glimpse of whats going through his mind as his career is clearly much closer to the end than the beginning. "I think in the last couple years Ive really kind of taken a step back and stopped and enjoyed what the journey means," Duncan said on the eve of Game 4 of these NBA Finals against the Miami Heat, a series that the Spurs lead 2-1. "I think, as it comes to a close on my career — and I know it is — I appreciate it more." The 38-year-old Duncan has been superb so far in this series, averaging 17.7 points on nearly 65 per cent shooting from the floor. If the Spurs win the championship, it would be Duncans fifth crown. Only 13 players in NBA history havve ever been part of more championship series than that.dddddddddddd And if Spurs coach Gregg Popovich knows Duncans exit plans — this year, next year, or otherwise — hes not tipping his hand. "It will probably be the third quarter of some game on the road some year, and hell feel like hes not as significant and hell walk into the locker room," Popovich said earlier in this series. Before the start of this rematch finals against Miami, Duncan — who has an option for next season at just over $10 million, an absolute bargain by NBA standards for someone at his level of production — said hes not thinking about retirement and doesnt even "care about any of that stuff." On Wednesday, he acknowledged that hes savoring these finals, since nothing about the future is ever guaranteed. "I appreciate every game more," Duncan said. "I appreciate every accomplishment, and everything that we get to go through and every experience, knowing that it might be the last time I do it." As soon as Impact manager

MONTREAL -- As soon as Impact manager Frank Klopas was handed his championship medal, he kissed it. In the midst of a tough season in Major League Soccer, Klopas and his Montreal squad were awarded the silverware after defeating Toronto FC 1-0 in the second leg of the Amway Canadian Championship final on Wednesday. Montreal defended its Voyageurs Cup, taking home the trophy for the second consecutive year after winning the two-legged final 2-1 on aggregate. The win is a major victory for a squad sitting at the bottom of the league standings. "You have to seize the moment," said Klopas, who won his first trophy as an MLS coach. "This was one of our goals as a team. When its there in front of you, you cant let opportunities get away. You cant take them for granted." Because the Impact scored a crucial away goal in a 1-1 draw in the first leg of the final at BMO Field on May 28, a scoreless draw in Montreal would have been sufficient for the overall victory. And the game was scoreless heading into stoppage time before Felipes first Canadian championship goal sealed Montreals win. Felipe powered home a decisive strike to the right of TFC goalkeeper Joe Bendik minutes before the final whistle to give the Impact their third Voyageurs Cup in the competitions seven-year history. "When I get on the field, I just want to do my best and do my job and keep doing the job I did today," said the soft-spoken Felipe after the game. As a result, the Impact (2-1-1) advance to the group stage of the CONCACAF Champions League and will represent Canada in the annual club competition featuring 24 teams from North America, Central America and the Caribbean. The Impact join the New York Red Bulls and El Salvadors C.D. FAS in Group 3 of the Champions League, which gets underway in August. "Its important for us to represent Canada well," added the Brazilian-born Felipe. Montreal has now taken back-to-back Canadian championships after Toronto FC lifted the trophy four consecutive years from 2009 to 2012. Montreal won the inaugural event in 2008. Toronto (1-2-1) made it interesting late Wednesday. Needing just one goal to move on, Jonathan Osario came awfully close to the winner in the 83rd minute of play when he skipped past an Impact defender and hit the post to keeper Evan Bushs left. "We just couldnt get that goal," said TFC manager Ryan Nelsen. "Hitting the post really summed it up. We had nice periods of play, controlled the ball for most of the time, but just couldnt get that break that would have won us the tournament." Toronto has otherwise had Montreals number since the tournament launched. TFC are now 7-2-2 all-time against the Impact in the Canadian championship. Nelsens men came out flying from the get-go, putting instant pressure on Bush. Benefiting from winger Alvaro Reys good speed down the touchline, Toronto got several good crosses into the box in the games first 30 minutes. Star striker Jermain Defoe had a volley blocked in the fourth minute of play, and skied a free kick from an advanced position in the sixth. In the 26th, a rocket by midfielder Kyle Bekker missed the net just wide. "I played a very young team over two legs that deserved to win," said Nelsen, whose team is sixth in the league with 16 points from 10 games. "Imagine whats going to happen next year when they start to mature. This is great experience for those guys. They played against Montreals top team. Next year well be even better." The tide turned in Montreals favour at the half-hour mark, with the Impact seemingly gaining confidence from a Jack McInerney header off a corner that missed just over the bar. From there, the Impact came close to opening the score on many occasions. Two left-footed volleys from Marco Di Vaio went wide, and a Hernan Bernardello free kick forced a good save from Bendik, who sprawled to his left to stop the shot in the 43rd minute. It was Montreals only attempt on target in the first half. In the end, the clean sheet was the Impacts second in as many games. Montreal has not conceded a goal in the Canadian championship at Saputo Stadium since joining Major League Soccer three years ago. "I knew it was going to be a close game," said Klopas of the second leg. "With the quality players (Toronto) have in the final third, we just had to make sure we defended really well. Sometimes things are just meant to be." Montreal will look to build on the victory when the team returns to MLS action on June 11. With just two wins from 12 league games, the Impact are last in the Eastern Conference. "Regardless of how we started the season, things take time," said Klopas. "My group never lost faith. We stuck together as a team. Winning some games has made us even stronger." Last season, the Impact finished last in their CONCACAF group. In 2008-09, the team reached the quarter-finals of the Champions League, losing 5-4 on aggregate to Mexicos Santos Laguna. Toronto FC were also beaten by Santos in the semifinals of the tournaments 2011-12 edition. "I want to wish Montreal the best in the next leg representing Canada," said Nelsen. "I hope they do really well." Now hes squarely in the U.S. capital and helping the Washington Wizards playoff drive. John Wall scored 33 points, Gooden got 11 of his 21 in the final quarter and the Wizards overcame a 10-point fourth-quarter deficit for a 101-94 win over the Brooklyn Nets on Saturday night. Each week, we will run down the top waiver wire pickups with a focus on the coming week and rest of the season. QUARTERBACKS Nick Foles (vs. Dallas)Last week: 22/31, 296 yards, 3 TDs; 1 rushing TDFoles is owned by less than 20% of teams heading into Week 7 meaning a lot of fantasy teams – and surely some in need of QB help – missed out on a Top 3 performance at the position last week. If Mike Vicks hamstring isnt ready to go come Sunday Foles is a must-own. Even if Vick is ready to go Foles performance may have been enough to spark a QB controversy in Philadelphia and owning the sophomore third-rounder could pay off before the season is out. Josh Freeman (at New York Giants)Last week: -If you saw the Vikings last week, you know they need a new QB. Freeman may not be the answer, and its likely hell struggle for a bit as he continues to learn Minnesotas playbook, but hes the teams best option and gives fantasy teams a working bye week replacement as soon as he starts, which could be as early as this week. Brandon Weeden (at Green Bay)Last week: 26/43, 292 yards, 2 TDs, 2 INTsThe Browns QB play regressed last week with Weeden taking over for an injured Brian Hoyer, but it was felt more in real football than in fantasy football. Weeden was a Top 10 QB last week, throwing for 292 yards and two touchdowns. Dont expect that to continue into next week, especially with the Browns traveling to Lambeau Field taking on the Packers, but the now 30-year-old could put up QB2 numbers. Thad Lewis (at Miami)Last week: 19/32, 216 yards, 2 TDsLewis performance was a very pleasant surprise for the Bills in Week 6, throwing for more than 200 yards and scoring three combined TDs in almost leading the team to an OT win over the Bengals. There are reasons for pessimism with Lewis moving forward – hes questionable for Week 7 with a foot sprain; hes still Thad Lewis – but if he gets another start for Buffalo he could be worth a flyer. Others: Chad Henne (vs. San Diego), Mike Glennon (at Atlanta) RUNNING BACKS Joseph Randle (at Philadelphia) Last week: 11 carries, 17 yards, 1 TDRandle is nothing more than an injury fill-in for DeMarco Murray but what makes him enticing is he joins a strong offence in Dallas and has five straight games against defences that struggle some against the run. If Murray is out for a while, this could be a really good pickup. Brandon Jacobs (vs. Minnesota)Last week: 22 carries, 106 yards, 2 TDsJacobs turned back the clock for at least one week last Thursday in rushing for 106 yards and two TDs against the Bears. David Wilson could need season-ending back surgery so the Giants backfield should be Jacobs, at least until DaRel Scott returns from injury in a few weeks. Jacobs is a shell of his former self and last weeks performance is unlikely to be repeated. But he is still a big body capable of plunging into the end zone should the Giants get him closee enough.dddddddddddd Chris Ogbonnaya (at Green Bay)Last week: 5 carries, 24 yards; 7 catches, 61 yards, 1 TDOgbonnaya wont receive more carries than Willis McGahee in Cleveland but his worth comes in the passing game, especially for teams in PPR leagues. The 27-year-old rushed for just 24 yards last week, and hasnt yet rushed for more than 30 yards in a game this season, but he added seven catches for 61 yards and a touchdown, making for a decent performance last Sunday. Moving forward Ogbonnaya should expect five or more targets to supplement his weak ground totals. Others: Mike Tolbert (vs. St. Louis), Brandon Bolden (at New York Jets) WIDE RECEIVERS Emmanuel Sanders (vs. Baltimore)Last week: 3 catches, 70 yards, 1 TDThere are a number of serviceable receivers that can be found on the waiver wire each week; after Pittsburgh finally got into the win column last weekend against the Jets, Sanders could be one worth a look. Hes not receiving the targets he did prior to Heath Millers return to the lineup (averaging 11 the first two weeks, seven the past three) but is still putting up more than 60 yards receiving per week on average. If he can find the end zone like he did last week, teams are looking at a double-digit scorer in Sanders. Terrance Williams (at Philadelphia)Last week: 2 catches, 27 yards, 1 TDWilliams saw a drastic reduction in targets last week coinciding with the return of a healthy Miles Austin, but still managed a decent fantasy line by scoring a touchdown on one of his just two catches. The rookie has looked good early in the season and while there are a number of options Tony Romo will look to first in Dallas, the Cowboys offence is explosive and should provide opportunity for Williams. Others: Rueben Randle (vs. Minnesota), Keenan Allen (at Jacksonville), Stephen Hill (vs. New England) TIGHT ENDS Kyle Rudolph (at New York Giants)Last week: 9 catches, 97 yards, 1 TDThanks in large part to garbage yards, Rudolph had his best game of the year, racking up nine catches for 97 yards and a touchdown. There is reason to believe last week was Rudolphs coming out party and not just a one week aberration. The Vikings should continue to be terrible, having to lean more heavily on the pass in attempts to cut opposing leads, lending to more opportunities for Rudolph. Dont expect the TD every week, but the TE should keep his receiving yards totals fairly high. Jordan Reed (vs. Chicago) Last week: 4 catches, 58 yardsReed is the less-owned Redskins TE with Fred Davis, he shouldnt be. The rookie third-rounder is clearly the top passing game option at TE for Washington, averaging six targets his past two games while Davis wasnt targeted once last week. Reed is taking advantage of his opportunities too, recording 58 receiving yards against Dallas on Sunday. Others: Tyler Eifert (at Detroit), Delanie Walker (vs. San Francisco) China NFL Jerseys White Cheap NFL Gear Cheap Jerseys 2019 Youth NFL Jerseys China Wholesale Jerseys China Cheap NFL Jerseys Wholesale Youth NFL Jerseys China ' ' '

on the Lions practice squad last year

LAKE FOREST, Ill. -- The Chicago Bears and first-round draft pick Kyle Fuller have agreed to a four-year contract that includes an option for a fifth season. Fuller, a cornerback from Virginia Tech, was taken with the 14th pick last week. With the deal announced Wednesday, the Bears have seven of the eight players they drafted under contract. The exception is defensive tackle Will Sutton, a third-rounder from Arizona. The 5-foot-11, 190-pound Fuller started 42 of 50 games at Virginia Tech and had 129 solo tackles along with six interceptions, 21 pass break ups and four forced fumbles in his career. He had 24 tackles, broke up 10 passes and picked off two in nine games last season. The Bears have a pair of two-time Pro Bowl cornerbacks in Tim Jennings and Charles Tillman, but Fuller is expected to play on Chicagos nickel defence and special teams at the start of his pro career. He could eventually wind up replacing the 33-year-old Tillman, whos on a one-year contract. Both starting safety spots are open for the Bears, but general manager Phil Emery made two things clear last week -- Fuller will play cornerback and Tillman isnt moving to safety. Fuller grew up in a family with four Virginia Tech players, including former NFL defensive back Vincent Fuller, who played from 2005-2011 with Tennessee and Detroit. Corey, a wide receiver, was on the Lions practice squad last year. The Bears have been moving quickly to sign their draft picks. They agreed to contracts with safety Brock Vereen and quarterback David Fales on Monday and defensive tackle Ego Ferguson, running back KaDeem Carey, punter Patrick ODonnell and offensive tackle Charles Leno, Jr. on Tuesday. Duke coach Mike Krzyzewski

ATLANTA -- Duke coach Mike Krzyzewski insists there has been no talk of big games still to come this week. Convincing evidence came in the way the Blue Devils kept their focus in a win over Georgia Tech. Jabari Parker had 16 points and 14 rebounds, and No. 5 Duke rolled to a 68-51 victory on Tuesday night. Duke started strong, kept up the defensive pressure, and maintained its double-figure lead for the final 28 minutes. "Our guys played a heck of a first half," Krzyzewski said. "I mean we played with amazing energy and focus." Rodney Hood sank four 3-pointers and scored 14 points for Duke, which never trailed. The Blue Devils (21-5, 10-3 Atlantic Coast Conference) have won four straight and nine of 10. "We came out with a sense of urgency," Hood said. "We didnt want to take them lightly. "We wanted to come out and try to dominate from the beginning." Duke is in a hectic run of four games in eight days. The Blue Devils will play at North Carolina on Thursday before facing No. 1 Syracuse on Saturday. The North Carolina game was postponed on Feb. 12 because of a winter storm. The stretch began with a win at Maryland on Saturday. "We havent even talked about those two games, so theres no buildup for us," Krzyzewski said. "We respect the heck out of Georgia Tech." Robert Carter Jr. led Georgia Tech (13-13, 4-9 ACC) with 13 points. Kammeon Holsey had 12, and Chris Bolden added 10. Georgia Tech centre Daniel Miller had nine rebounds but only two points. "He didnt get the ball that much because our perimeter defence was the best it has been all year," Krzyzewski said. Duke scored 16 points off Georgia Techs 13 turnovers, including five by freshman guard Corey Heyward. "I think our defence transitioned to offence," Parker said. "We were able to get stops and able to score, so we put ourselves in a good situation." Duke led 50-30 early in the second half before the Yellow Jackets cut the deficit to 52-40. Hoods 3-pointer, followed by Parkers offensive rebound, basket and free throw for a three-point play, pushed the Blue Devils edge back to 18 points. Georgia Tech couldnt muster another comeback attempt. After making only five of 24 3-pointers in Saturdays 69-67 home win over Maryland, Duke made 10 of 18 3s against the Yellow Jackets. The Blue Devils, who lead the ACC in 3-point shooting, made six of their first eight -- including three by Hood -- and pulled ahead 34-16. Duke, which has lost twice on the road to unranked conference opponents Notre Dame and Clemson, was 3-3 in ACC road games before Tuesday. Parker, who recorded the ninth double-double of his rookie season, and Hood helped make sure the Blue Devils were sharp early. Hood had three 3-pointers in the first six minutes, and the Blue Devils led 38-19. Like most teams, Georgia Tech struggled to match up with Parker (6-8, 235). "Unless you have a strong chest in front of him, you have no chance. No chance," Georgia Tech coach Brian Gregory said. "Theres no question what hes going to do when he gets the ball. "The way he drives, its impossible not to have contact. Its a foul every time." Georgia Tech, which trailed by only one point at halftime of its 79-57 loss at Duke on Jan. 7, trailed 43-27 at the break of the rematch. "Give Duke a ton of credit," Gregory said. "They came very focused and came with great force on the defensive end. They have improved tremendously since the first time we played them." Rasheed Sulaimon had 11 points for Duke. The crowd of 8,600 was Georgia Techs first sellout of the season. Lucas Biglia Argentina Jersey . Yankees 2B Brian Roberts

NEW YORK -- Carlos Beltran felt he was finally emerging from a miserable start to his career with the New York Yankees. Franco Armani Jersey . One swing Friday night made him certain of it. The slumping slugger launched a three-run homer with two outs in the ninth inning, giving New York a 5-3 victory over the Baltimore Orioles. "Thank God the past couple of days I would say Ive been feeling more comfortable at the plate and Ive been putting good at-bats together," Beltran said. "I just felt confident that I was going to do something positive." Beltran signed a $45 million, three-year contract with New York this winter after an All-Star season with the St. Louis Cardinals. But he has struggled with inconsistency and an elbow injury has limited him to the designated hitter role since early June. Beltran began the game batting just .221. But right after Brian McCann lined an RBI single, Beltran hit a drive off Zach Britton (3-1) far over the left-field wall. It was the first time this year that the Yankees won in their final at-bat at home, and it was their fourth straight victory overall. "Its been somewhat of a struggle then he got hurt. But you can just see him starting to square the balls up," Yankees manager Joe Girardi said. "That was a tremendous at-bat." The Yankees kept coming up empty with runners in scoring position until the ninth. Brett Gardner led off the inning with a single, then Derek Jeter struck out looking and Jacoby Ellsbury flied out. Mark Teixeira followed with a walk and McCann singled home a run, setting up Beltrans first walkoff homer since 2008, for the New York Mets. Britton was already off the field by the time Beltran made it to home plate, where he was mobbed by his teammates and then got doused during a postgame interview. "He just had a couple of sinkers up and they made him pay for it," Orioles manager Buck Showlater said of Britton. "I cannot really fault him, all things considered. He let it rip and it did not work for him tonight." David Huff (1-0) gave up Steve Pearces RBI single in the ninth but got the win. Leading 3-1 heading into the ninth, the Orioles missed a chance to pull even with the Yankees for second place in the AL East. "It is frustrating. These are games we want to win right now but you just have to turn the page," said Britton, who has two blown saves in 11 chances. "You cannot just sit here and mope about it. Go out there and make the adjustment." Coming off a decisive three-game sweep of the division-leading Toronto Blue Jays, New York jumped out to a quick lead on Teixeiras RBI double. Then they fizzled, wasting three chances with the bases loaded and failing to capitalize on a career high-tying six walks from Ubaldo Jimenez. "We just couldnt seem to get the big hit when we needed it," Girardi said. Centre fielder Adam Jones threw a runner out at home plate in the second and hit an RBI single in the sixth, helping the Orioles take a 2-1 lead. Nick Hundley doubled for the Orioles first hit off Hiroki Kuroda leading off the sixth and scored on Pearces one-out double. Pearce had an RBI single in the ninth three batters after third baseman Yangervis Solarte made a fielding error to open the inning. The Yankees loaded the bases for the first of three times in the second but Beltran, who doubled leading off, tried scoring on Gardners fly to medium centre field. Jones throw reached Hundley on one perfect hop, and the catcher had plenty of time to apply the tag for the double play. Jimenez loaded bases in the fifth with three straight two-out walks. He needed one pitch to get out of the jam: Teixeira grounded to first base on the first pitch he saw, keeping it 1-0. The Yankees loaded the bases again with two outs in the sixth -- a single and two walks -- but this time Jimenez wasnt given a chance to quash the rally. T.J. McFarland was brought in to face Gardner. Second baseman Ryan Flaherty got the save, though, ranging deep behind second base to field Gardners hard one-hopper and making a swift, backhand flip to shortstop J.J. Hardy covering for the forceout. NOTES: Yankees 2B Brian Roberts singled in the second for his 1,500th career hit. He had 1,452 with the Orioles before signing with New York this off-season. ... DeMar DeRozan led the way with 33 points and Rudy Gay finished with 18 points, eight rebounds and eight assists. Kyle Lowry contributed 13 points and 10 assists, while Terrence Ross netted 17 points off the bench. Ross, DeRozan and Lowry all made a trio of 3-pointers. "It was a very efficient game, 10-for-19, 3-for-5 from three, but it was all started by Rudys penetrating and kicking, Kyles penetrating and kicking," Raptors coach Dwane Casey said of DeRozans night. Gay and DeRozan have combined to average 52.0 points in the last four games for the Raptors, who are also averaging 18.5 assists in the past four contests. DeRozan is averaging 27.8 ppg in his last five games. Despite being outrebounded 50-41 by the Sixers, Toronto ranks second in the NBA in offensive rebounds (13.6) and first in second-chance points (19.1). The Raptors are first in the Atlantic for the first tiime since 2007 and will also host Brooklyn, Miami and Denver. Willy Caballero Argentina Jersey. Washington will try to extend its winning streak to a season-high three games when it visits Air Canada Centre. The Wizards made it two wins in a row with Wednesdays 98-91 win over Kyrie Irving and the Cleveland Cavaliers. Bradley Beal scored 26 points and Nene added 24 in the win. John Wall and Martell Webster had 15 points apiece for the Wizards, who fended off a furious Cleveland rally. Beal also chipped in a career-high tying eight assists and seven rebounds. He is averaging 22.9 points, 4.2 rebounds and 3.7 assists in the last nine games. Nene is averaging 22.7 points, 6.7 rebounds and 4.0 assists in his past three. The Cavs had a 32-18 advantage in the fourth quarter after losing the previous three periods and almost erased a 27-point deficit. "The easiest thing to do is relax when youre up by 27 points. They made us pay for that, but we nipped it in the bud and took care of business. This is another step for us in the maturation process," Webster said. Webster is averaging 16.8 points and 7.5 rebounds in his last four games. Washington and Toronto split four meetings a season ago and have split their series in each of the past three seasons. The Wizards have lost six of seven contests north of the border. Mingo, who was hospitalized with a bruised lung he sustained in an Aug.MINNEAPOLIS -- A $4 billion lawsuit from the players union accusing NFL team owners of setting a secret salary cap in 2010 was kept alive by a federal appeals court Friday as the sniping between the two sides persists long after the end of the lockout. The 8th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in St. Louis partially reversed a federal judges order that had rejected the unions collusion claim, sending the case back to U.S. District Judge David Doty for further proceedings. The three-judge appeals court panel that heard oral arguments in January disagreed with Doty on one of the unions two arguments for pursuing damages despite the 2011 collective bargaining agreement that was supposed to relinquish the unions right to sue for alleged breaches of the old CBA. The NFL called the appeals court decision "entirely procedural in nature" and said its "far from validating" the claims of the NFL Players Association. "The Court specifically highlighted the heavy burden that the NFLPA faces in establishing this claim, and we remain highly confident that the claim will be dismissed yet again," the NFL said in a written statement. The league, however, could be forced to make public otherwise-confidential financial and strategic information in court, which the union has pushed for all along. "We are pleased that the Eighth Circuit ruled that players have the opportunity to proceed with their claims," the NFLPA said. "Through discovery and a hearing, we can understand how collusion took place. We have notified the NFL of its obligations to preserve all relevant documents and communications." The collusion claim seeking at least $4 billion in relief for the players was originally filed in May 2012, less than a year after the new CBA was implemented following a five-month lockout. The final year of the prior CBA was supposed to be "uncapped," but tthe union cited public references by New York Giants owner John Mara and NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell as evidence that a salary cap existed and claimed a loss of $1 billion in cumulative compensation.dddddddddddd Dallas and Washington were penalized for overloading contracts in that 2010 season despite league warnings, and the NFL in 2012 penalized them by taking away $10 million in cap space from the Cowboys and $36 million from the Redskins. Dotys oversight of the 1993 Reggie White class-action settlement was marked by mostly player-friendly rulings. The league lost enough key decisions under his jurisdiction that it twice tried to have him removed from his role as the sports legal referee, alleging impartiality. But in December 2012 he handed the union a rare defeat, pointing to the new CBA language that dismissed all prior claims and prevented the players from reopening the White settlement that served as the backbone for the old CBA to sue. The NFLPA appealed soon after. The 8th Circuit panel -- chief judge William Riley and circuit judges Roger Wollman and Bobby Shepherd -- has traditionally tilted pro-business, but this was a win for labour. The appeals court sided with Doty in ruling the alleged collusion did not invalidate the 2011 dismissal of claims because the settlement has been treated more like a contract than a true class action. However, the appeals judges disagreed with Doty on this: Under a federal rule authorizing relief in exceptional cases where the party being sued disingenuously reached the settlement, the union should be allowed to argue the merit of its lawsuit despite the 2011 dismissal. "The Association bears a heavy burden in attempting to convince the district court that the dismissal was fraudulently procured," the judges wrote. "We hold only that the Association should be given the opportunity to meet this burden." The Bulldogs continued

HAMILTON, Ont. -- The Hamilton Bulldogs were determined to tilt the scales in their direction on Sunday after losing a close game and a lengthy winning streak a night earlier. Nathan Beaulieu provided that push with two points, including the game-winning goal in the second period, as the Bulldogs outlasted the Iowa Wild 3-1 in the American Hockey League. Gabriel Dumont and Nick Tarnasky also scored for the Bulldogs (19-15-4), who returned to the win column after seeing a six-game winning streak snapped on Saturday. Dustin Tokarski made 27 saves. "Yesterday, we let the game slip away from us," said Beaulieu. "So today, we were on a mission. It was disappointing to have our streak snapped, but now we can build another." Marc Hagel had the lone goal for the Wild (15-16-4), who completed a six-game road trip 2-2-2. Johan Gustafsson stopped 31 shots in a losing effort. Marc Hagels hooking penalty just 31 seconds into the game gave life to Hamiltons offence, and the Bulldogs nearly opened the scoring twice on the power play. Moments after Sven Andrighetto was denied, Martin St. Pierre chipped an effort over Gustafsson and just . The Bulldogs continued to probe for the games first goal, and Andrighetto showcased his speed with five minutes to play in the first period, sliding the puck past Wild defender Brian Connelly and rushing in alone on Gustafsson, who held firm to smother his shot. After a strong effort on their first power play of the afternoon, the Bulldogs found the opening goal on their second, after Corbin Baldwin was whistled for hooking at 17:54 of the first period. Dumont put his stickhandling on display, receiving a pass from St. Pierre well wide of the net but quickly whipping the puck to his forehand side before chipping a shot over the far shoulder of Gustafsson at 18:44. Hamilton head coach Sylvain Lefebvre was encouraged by his teams strong first period, particularly coming as it did on the heels of a streak-ending loss. "The guys regrouped and refocused today, and had a really good start," he said. "I was concerned with how we would start, given the finish yesterday. But the guys showed some maturity, and it seems like were gaining that as a group." A great opportunity to double the lead passed the Bulldogs by four minutes into the second period, when Louis Leblanc failed to corral a centring pass and could only manage a weak attempt on goal. Maxime Macenauer was penalized for a trip on the play, and the Wild punished the Bulldogs inability to finish on the ensuing power play. Hagel, Justin Mercier and Warren Peters worked a combined rush to perfection, as Peters found Hagel with the final, cross-ice pass. He easily fired the one-time shot past the downed Tokarski at 6:13 of the second period. Another impressive individual play paved the way for Hamiltons go-ahead goal at 12:26. Andrighetto took control of the puck behind the Wild net, weaved through defenders to the blue-line and unleashed a low slap shot that rebounded to Beaulieu on the right. The defenceman made no mistake in firing the second effort high and past Gustafsson. Hamilton suffered a scare when Dumont took a slap shot directly off the foot, and hobbled to the bench midway through the third. He returned to the bench minutes later, but did not play another shift. Tarnasky added the insurance goal into the empty net with just six seconds to play. Lefebvre saw some of the ingredients for a playoff team in his groups performance on Sunday. "You have to be able to play the tight games," he said. "In the playoffs, thats what you face. After a loss in the playoffs, too, you have to be able to regroup. So Im glad that we were able to do that tonight." He even got an assist, too. "I think thats been the case for a number of years, even before I played for Pittsburgh," Penguins centre Sidney Crosby said. "They play a good team defence and with Marty Brodeur and (Cory) Schneider there, they have two pretty good goalies. You have to make sure you put your chances away." Brodeur came up big early and then held on to improve his record to 48-28-5 against Pittsburgh in his career. The Devils stand 13-3 vs. the Penguins at the Prudential Center since it opened in 2008. Adam Henrique scored 1:38 into the game and Michael Ryder connected 2:45 into the second, sparking the Devils to a 2-1 victory on Tuesday. Brodeur was credited with his 44th career assist on Ryders goal. Brodeur had an assist in the game for the Devils (17-16-1) and made 19 saves in gaining his second win of the season against Pittsburgh. Marc-Andre Fleury had 28 saves for the Penguins (29-12-1). "Especially in this building, weve been playing them well," said Brodeur, who improved his season record to 12-8-3. "Were trying to play well against good teams. We want to play well against everybody, but we have that little fear of the Penguins because we know how damaging they can be. So it brings out the best in us." Henrique scored his ninth goal with a nifty finish of a pass from Ryan Clowe. Henrique made a quick move into the clear in front of the net and then lifted a shot over the left shoulder of Penguins goalie Fleury. Ryder was credited with an assist on the goal. A few minutes later, the Devils lost veteran winger Patrik Elias after he was knocked to the ice by Pittsburghs Tanner Glass. Elias was face down on the ice and didnt moove until medical personnel reached him.dddddddddddd He got up slowly to his knees and then managed to skate off. He did not return. "It wasnt precautionary," Devils coach Pete DeBoer said about his decision to hold Elias out. "I dont think there was an option. I talked to him between periods and he explained the play and told me it was awkward. But I dont know anything yet." Brodeur earned his 44th career assist when he started the play that led to Ryders 1th goal of the season at 2:45 of the second. Brodeur cleared the puck to Ryder, who skated past the blue line and into the middle before losing the puck. But Henrique quickly regained possession and sent it back into the middle, where Ryder fired his shot past Fleury. Matt Niskanen cut it to 2-1 for Pittsburgh at 6:58 of the second from the right circle off a Crosby feed that beat Brodeur to his glove side. Sidney Crosby picked up his 23rd assist of the season on the goal and teammate Chris Kunitz registered his 22nd assist on the play. The opening minutes of the game were frenetic for Brodeur. Kunitz blasted a slap shot that bounced off the right shoulder of Brodeur. Seconds later, Kunitz missed a chance at an open net with Brodeur down on far side of the goal. "I wish that one would have gone in, too," Kunitz said. "He made a nice save, got his shoulder on that one. Hes a good goaltender. He knows how the play the angles, thats for sure." NOTES: Sidney Crosby had an assist in the second period to give him nine goals and 23 points for the month of December and has now produced a point in 13 of the last 14 games for Pittsburgh. . Kansas City with two games

Jake Peavy can pitch the San Francisco Giants to their third World Series title in five years tonight when they attempt to close out the Kansas City Royals in Game 6 at Kauffman Stadium. Thats what you play for -- to be in the World Series and to win it, Peavy said. To be the guy who gets the ball with that opportunity. Its a special opportunity, I understand that. I just have to do all I can do to be in the moment, to think about executing pitches, to find any way, any how for the San Francisco Giants to win this game. While it may seem as if all the chips are stacked against Kansas City that may not be the case. Teams going home down 3-2 in a best-of-seven World Series have won it all in eight of the last 10 instances. Also, the Giants have lost both of their series when they have been in this position. And of course, Kansas City won Games 6 and 7 at home to win the 1985 World Series. I think the character in our clubhouse is at an all-time high, Royals pitcher James Shields said. I think thats what is going to get us through the next two games. Weve been in some situations where we had to get some wins in September, and we got it done. Theres no difference. Kansas City may have done its part in getting the series back to its ballpark, but the Giants also accomplished their goal of winning a game not started by Madison Bumgarner. Now, theyll have to win another if they want to secure the eighth world title in team history. Peavy will get the first crack at it, as he tries to reverse his postseason fortunes. Peavy ran into trouble against the Royals his third time through the lineup in Game 2 and left after allowing four runs and six hits in five-plus innings of work. Hes pitched to a 3.68 ERA in three starts this postseason, but is just 1-4 lifetime in the playoffs with a 7.05 ERA in eight starts. Im really excited about the opportunity, I really am, Peavy said. I never thought it would happen any other way. Thats not who I am. I never thought wed get swept in the three games (at home). The thought that I might not pitch again never really entered my mind. I prepared and I expected to pitch again, I really did. San Francisco has been spoiled this postseason by Bumgarner, who has put together one of the better runs in recent memory. He followed up his brilliant Game 1 showing with an even better effort in Game 5 on Sunday, as he tossed a four-hit shutout in the Giants 5-0 win. Im just happy we won, Bumgarner said. That was a big game for us, being tied 2-2. Going back to Kansas City with two games, its a whole lot better that we have to win one now instead of having to win two. The Giants have scored first in four of five games in this series and are 7-1 during the postseason under this circumstance. Theyve also scored 15 unanswered runs since falling behind 4-1 in the third inning of Game 4. Neither team homered for the third straight game, marking the first time this has happened in a World Series since Games 1-3 of the 1948 Fall Classic between the Indians and the Boston Braves. Getting the call for the Royals will be 23-year-old rookie Yordano Ventura, who pitched well against the Giants in Game 1. After allowing a leadoff home run to Gregor Blanco, Ventura settled down and ended up surrendering just two runs and eight hits in 5 1/3 frames. That kid has no fear, Royals reliever Kelvin Herrera said of Ventura. You either hit him or he hits you, but hes not going to be scared. Ventura will be pitching with a heavy heart Tuesday following the death of his friend, St. Louis Cardinals outfielder Oscar Taveras, who was killed in a car accident in the Dominican Republic. Ventura plans on writing Taveras No. 18 and the initials R.I.P. on his spikes and glove in memory of his countrymate. Its going to be hard to put that aside, Ventura said on Monday, but Im going to throw everything I have out there. Im dedicating that game to him. These teams actually met in the regular season, as the Royals completed a three-game sweep at Kauffman Stadium. Going back to The K, said Royals third baseman Mike Moustakas, with those fans and that electricity, were excited. If necessary, Game 7 will be played on Wednesday at Kauffman Stadium.
