Just curious - what's everyone favorite pocketknife to carry (and why)?

I'll start. Mine is a Victorinox swiss army knife, rather basic, very few tools. It's very light weight, doesn't weigh down my pocket. The blades have excellent steel. I can get them shaving sharp very easily and they retain an edge for a very long time. I'm probably the only one here to choose this knife, since I doubt if it's viewed as "manly", but what the hell, it works great for me.

I carry a $2.50 blade, it is a cheap Chinese pocket knife but I like it, it is easy to carry , with a two inch blade and it is surprisingly sharp with a decent quality steel.

Mine is pretty basic also. It's a Kobalt from Lowe's. 2.5" blade folding with serrated near the hilt.
Locks open. Easy to open and close one handed. Sharpens fairly easy and holds edge about as well as most other stainless blades. I do keep a few more in the cab of my truck or in the toolbox in back. Mostly utility, multitool and wire stripping types though.

Mine is cheap china made folder that my dad gave me and my brother a few years back, the steel supplier came in before Christmas with a whole case of knifes with their name on it some reason it never got lost like my other more expensive knives, ( at least three are at the bottom of the river).

Mike, do you use the clip to hold it outside your pocket? Maybe it's because I'm old & set in my ways, but I'd rather have the knife in my pocket than clipped to the outside of the pocket.

i use the clip to hold the knife at the top of my pocket.the clip is on the outside, knife inside the pocket.easier this way when one handed use is necessary.

The Opinel knife was invented by Joseph Opinel in about 1895. By the start of World War II as many as 20 million had been sold. The company is still run by the Opinel family. There is an Opinel Museum (Le Musée de l'Opinel) at Saint-Jean-de-Maurienne.
The traditional model has a beechwood handle and a high carbon steel blade, which will take a very good edge but needs sharpening every so often, and must be kept clean to avoid tarnish and rust. However, in recent years a wide range of variations on the basic theme have been introduced, using luxurious or exotic woods such as oak, walnut, olive, rosewood and stained hornbeam, as well as other materials such as cattle horn.
It is very light, durable and with the carbon steel blade easily kept sharp.

Opinel knives: Does any member own one? I've seen them advertized, and they look attractive to me, but I'd like to hear from someone with personal experience with them.

Emerson Commander-BTS. I like it because when I pull it out of my pocket, the blade opens. http://www.emersonknives.com/ekCommander_BTS.php
I usually need a blade when I have one hand occupied with something else, i.e holding the knot of a rope or something like that. This knife had treated me well. I have hacked wire with it, cut rope, skinned an elk (until my dad brought over the scalpel...) They are sharpened on one side of the blade only, strange to me at first, and I needed practice to cut a straight line, the blade tended to drift to the left (probably the user).

Opinel - I have one. Sam posted a good description. I carry it when I lose or break all the blades on my Buck Cadet. I have been carrying a Gerber folding lately since it is lighter and only $10 at Target. I dropped my last Buck down a pipe chase and there was no access to get it back. Teach me to use it as a screw driver...
