I didn't write this, but it certainly expresses my feelings!

Put me in charge ...

Put me in charge of food stamps. I’d get rid of Lone Star cards; no cash for Ding Dongs or Ho Ho’s, just money for 50-pound bags of rice and beans, blocks of cheese and all the powdered milk you can haul away. If you want steak and frozen pizza, then get a job.

Put me in charge of Medicaid. The first thing I’d do is to get women Norplant birth control implants or tubal ligations. Then, we’ll test recipients for drugs, alcohol, and nicotine and document all tattoos and piercings. If you want to reproduce or use drugs, alcohol, smoke or get tats and piercings, then get a job.

Put me in charge of government housing. Ever live in a military barracks? You will maintain our property in a clean and good state of repair. Your “home” will be subject to inspections any time and possessions will be inventoried. If you want a plasma TV or Xbox 360, then get a job and your own place.

In addition, you will either present a check stub from a job each week or you will report to a “government” job. It may be cleaning the roadways of trash, painting and repairing public housing, whatever we find for you. We will sell your 22-inch rims and low profile tires and your blasting stereo and speakers and put that money toward the “common good.”

Before you write that I’ve violated someone’s rights, realize that all of the above is voluntary. If you want our money, accept our rules. Before you say that this would be “demeaning” and ruin their “self esteem,” consider that it wasn’t that long ago that taking someone else’s money for doing absolutely nothing was demeaning and lowered self esteem.

If we are expected to pay for other people’s mistakes we should at least attempt to make them learn from their bad choices. The current system rewards them for continuing to make bad choices.

I guess the only questions to ask here are: How do we find whoever wrote this? and How do we put him/her in charge?

It'll never happen. Hell, I suggested the madatory drug screening for anyone on welfare to two Republican state representatives in Arizona as a way to reduce the state's deficit and never heard a peep back from either one.

You know, maybe we forum idiots should work together to get specific laws passed around our neck of the woods. Let's take this issue, for instance. Instead of talking about voting people in or out, why not start telling them how to do their jobs? Come up with the laws for them, present the ideas to them, then vote their asses out if they fail to act on it?

I know I'm a member of multiple forums and I suspect most of you are too. Why not decide on an issue and work to get it into law?

Dave, I agree. This one no welfare without a drug test! If they fail they have 6 months to clean up their act and if you fail. Go get a job or buy a gun, cause you aren't getting any kinfd of Welfare.

That's what I suggested. Hell, I even brought up the fact that drug screening procedures were already in place for state and federal workers, so privacy rights issues and procedures for collection and handling specimens were already tried, tested, and proven.

One of the things I brought up that I thought would help sell the idea is the fact that federal workers, including the military, has to pass drug testing as a condition of employment, and we actually work for our money. I still don't understand how this idea could possibly have gone without examination.

Okay, I take that back. I know exactly why this has gone without examination. Welfare is nothing more than opium for the masses, a handout to keep the people quiet. i believe if you accept handouts from the state, your financial life should be subject to audit, just like any other state-subsidized entity. I have family members who are on the state tit in Missouri and almost seem proud of how adept they have become at beating the system. It disgusts me. Hell, my wife got out of the army in September after eight years and kept asking if I was sure she should file for unemployment until the VA finished evaluating her for disability. We both still feel kinda funny about it, but as soon as she starts drawing disability, she's going off unemployment. On top of that, we are working to pay down all our debts instead of finding new ways to suck taxpayer dollars.

Apparently trying to reason with my family and set the example by how we live just isn't working for them. Maybe I should lead by example, run for office, and work to enact welfare reform to cut the tit off completely.
